Youth Friendly Cricket tournament

Parsa, Nepal, 7th April 2006
Birgunj, 6th April.06 The prateek local Daily newspaper, had published the news of Youth friendly cricket tournament jointly organized by Marie Stopes Youth Friendly Service Delivery Centre, Bindabasini and Jan Chetna yuwa club among 8 AYs groups form all RHIYA implementing VDCs from 28th March to 5th April 2006 at Jhauwaguthi. On 6th April at the closing ceremony in presence of socially prestigious people and club Mgmt. committee members Mr. Prakash Poudel Marie Stopes Centre In-charge had award the winning team with trophy and certificates.

UNFPA MTR team visited Muzaffarabad on September 20, 2006.
Six members UNFPA, MTR team including Dr. Thavar, Dr. Mussarat, Dr. Rafiqul Hussain, Dr. Mathai, Mrs. Mariana visited Muzaffarabad on September 20, 2006.
The team was received by Dr. Bushra Shams, DPO, Muzaffarabad, Javed Akhtar, District Project Coordinator, PAVHNA RHIYA Muzaffarabad, Dr. Nasir Rabi, Mr. Nayer Bukhari, Clinical Psychologist, Mr. Yasir Arafat, Ms., Shaheen from PAVHNA Dr. Tariq Hussain from UNFPA and other staff.
Formal meeting, was held at UNFPA Office, participated by Dr. Zakir, Medical Officer DOH, Bashir Kant Sb from AIMS, and PAVHNA RHIYA team.

International Youth Day celebration
PAVHNA district office Muzaffarabad arranged different youth activities to celebrate international youth day on 12th of august activity and events continued through out the week including theatre show debate competition sports events. Honourable minister of tourism and wild life Mr. Akbar Ibraheem Chaudry was invited as chief guest of the closing ceremony of youth week, which was held at Gojra Muzaffarabad. Honourable minister highlighted the role and responsibility of youth in connection with the challenges of 21st century. He expressed his commitment for taking initiatives for the betterment of youth and bringing them in mainstream. He also appreciated PAVHNA efforts to highlight youth issues and also to empower them. He stresses the need for more co-ordination between national, international agencies and government.

PAVHNA RHIYA Pakistan

In RHIYA Pakistan target district Muzaffarabad is once again affected by heavy rain and landsliding . On Monday July 24, 2006 at 4.30am swipedout local camp situated at Chela Banmdi and 22 people including children and youth have lost lives.
The managment of PAVHNA YFC chela Bandi has rushed to the spot and helped the affected families and provided support in searching for dead bodies. This is the second time this happens to the people who have been migrated to this area after the disaster of October 8, 2005.
The majority population is living either in camps or out of camps facing same threat of rough weather and landsliding/flood.
This area need full attention as well as support and resources. Local Youth can be trained to provide proper care and support in this critical time.
PAVHNA with support of EC/UNFPA is providing technical as well as counseling support in 10 target Union Councils of district Muzaffarabad. But the life is still very hard both for all population and its staff at all level, housing is still big issue in this district of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

Training on Pyscho-social support

Facilitators: Nayyer Abbas & Yasir Arafat.
Introduction of Trauma Counseling Workshop
Keeping in view the prevailing situation of the area after earthquake of October 8, 2005 i.e. traumatic stress and its ultimate consequences, PAVHNA district office organized two days workshop for service providers as service providers have to deal with those people who have traumatic status of mind.
Objectives of the workshop
· To sensitize the participants of the workshop on trauma and to give them understanding of trauma counseling.
· To train health care professionals to manage traumatize people
Description
This two day training was completed in the premises of Tehsil headquarter hospital recently established by UNFPA and health Department.
Most of the participants was selected from different health establishment, including health, NGOs and private practitioners.
Both male and female doctors participated and this was followed by lectures and question answers.
This activity will be followed up by routine training activities to be initiated at community level for junior staff and practitioners who are working at community level.
