EU/ UNFPA RHIYA Cambodia was officially launched on 1st September 2003, with the goal of improving the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) of young people aged 10-24 by applying the lessons learned during the first phase. A mixture of 16 local and 3 European NGOs were selected to work as executing and implementing agencies for 7 projects. The programme was implemented in a number of urban and rural areas with a degree of overlap between partner interventions, which provided increased opportunities for synergies, effectively linking education and outreach activities with the availability and provision of clinical ASRH services. RHIYA resources were used for practical on-the-ground interventions, developing standardized approaches, and forming policy guidelines and curriculum development.
In Cambodia, RHIYA's outputs were: 1) Increased political, community and family support for AY SRH interventions to create an enabling environment; 2) Enhanced awareness and knowledge of ASRH issues among target young people; 3) Increased availability of and access to quality SRH services for young people in target areas; 4) Enhanced technical, planning and managerial capacity for local provision of youth friendly SRH services; 5) Improved understanding of critical ASRH issues.
