PROJECTS

EU/UNFPA RHIYA Lao PDR was officially launched on April 1st 2003 and closed January 2007. The goal of RHIYA Lao was : Improving reproductive and sexual health of young people and adolescents in the Lao PDR. The component projects were executed by 3 partner organisations, two of which were European NGOs, the other was directly implemented by a government partner - The Lao Women’s Union Vientiane Capital. The programme was implemented in two main areas, Vientiane Capital and selected districts of three rural southern provinces. There was some degree of overlap between partner interventions, which provided increased opportunities for synergies. However, only one main project provided clinical A/YSRH services in Vientiane Capital. RHIYA resources were used for developing standardized approaches, curriculum and materials development and creating a supportive political and community environment for A/YSRH.

In RHIYA Lao PDR, programme outputs were: 1) Improved political and community support for A/YSRH interventions; 2) Increased awareness and improved SRH knowledge and be haviour among youth and adolescents; 3) Improved access to quality youth oriented sexual and reproductive health services; 4) Enhanced technical planning and managerial capacity among Govt partners to provide appropriate, adolescent-friendly A/YSRH information and services
