The RHIYA Vietnam started in 2004, to contribute the improved reproductive health (RH) status of poor and vunerable youth with a focus on gender equity in SRH education and services. The programme was divided into 2 complementary projects in addition to the UPSU: VYU, mainly focusing on ensuring an enabling environment & behavior change communication (BCC) to create a demand for SRH services and VINAFPA, concentrating on meeting this demand by providing services.
The two executing agencies (EAs) had a number of sub-project partners including two local implementing agencies (IAs-UCNEV& LMF and RHAF & VAM), and technical agencies (TAs- Care, WPF and MSI). As a pilot experience, the two projects were implemented in the same 22 communities, in 7 provinces , to combine effectively their activities.
Under the RHIYA Vietnam, 4 outputs have been identified: 1) Establish an enabling environment for youth-oriented RH information and services at the national and local level; 2) Sustain behaviour change through increased knowledge and awareness of RH issues among youth; 3) Increased utilization of quality reproductive health services by adolescents and youth at risk; 4) Strengthened technical, planning and management capacity for local NGOs/partners in the provision of adolescent and youth oriented RH services.
